Luminosity Studio

Context

A non-commercial project, built to work hands-on with IoT and mobile app development: put a microcontroller inside a physical object and build the app that controls it.

Luminosity Studio makes custom design lighting, which gave the project real hardware to work against rather than a development board on a desk.

Solution

We built the microcontroller setup for the lights and a mobile app to drive it, with brightness, colour and other settings controllable from a phone.

The wake-up light was the most involved part: brightness ramps up gradually over a set period rather than switching on, which means driving the light source on a curve instead of a state change.

Results

  • A microcontroller integration able to drive different types of light source
  • A mobile app controlling brightness, colour and settings against real hardware
  • A wake-up-light routine with gradual brightness over a configurable period

The project was never commercialised. The combination — control software driving physical hardware — returns at a larger scale in the RoboGo work.
